Today is the premiere of Uprooted! This will be the first time the world will see the project I’ve been working on for the entire semester with 20 other talented journalists from UNC-CH.
As a whole, Uprooted documents the effects of Venezuelans forced to flee to Colombia as a result of the political and economic crisis in their home country.
I worked with my team to share the story of Vinotinto Fútbol Club, a soccer team of primarily Venezuelan immigrants. Although the story is about soccer on the surface, following the players for a week and a half allowed my team to uncover the unexpected rewards that soccer brings them.
Along with the video I filmed and edited with my partner, Abby Cantrell, the project includes four other documentaries, photo stories and five written stories accompanied by infographics.
My peers and I have spent countless hours editing visuals, fine-tuning stories and coding HTML to put this project together, and finally seeing it come to life is like a breath of fresh air.
If you can’t make it to tonight’s screening on campus, you can livestream the premiere here: https://www.facebook.com/uprootedUNC
